Privacy Policy

RustLookup is an independent, community-built tool and is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios, Rust, Steam, Valve, or BattleMetrics. RustLookup provides Rust player lookup features based on information users enter into the website, such as a SteamID64, vanity URL, or Steam profile link. This policy explains what data is processed, how it is used, and your choices.
ⓘ Information We Collect
When you use RustLookup, we may process:
- Search terms you enter — SteamIDs, vanity URLs, and Steam profile links.
- Basic technical information such as browser type, device type, and general diagnostic data.
- Advertising-related data if ads are displayed on the website (see Advertising below).
📄 Local Storage
RustLookup stores a small amount of data in your browser's local storage to improve your experience. Specifically:
- rl_recent — a list of up to 5 recently searched players (name, Steam avatar URL, and SteamID64). This is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers.
- rl_last_query — the last search query you entered, stored in session storage so your search is restored if you navigate back from the results page. This is cleared when you close the browser tab.
You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for rustlookup.com.
⚙ How We Use Information
We use information to operate the website, return search results, improve reliability, detect abuse, and maintain site performance. We do not sell data to third parties.
📊 Analytics
RustLookup uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics collects information such as:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Your approximate geographic location (country/city level, derived from IP address)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- How you arrived at the site (e.g. search engine, direct link)
- Events such as searches performed or buttons clicked
This data is collected anonymously and used in aggregate to improve the site. IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish returning visitors and track sessions across pages.
Google Analytics data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
🔔 Advertising
RustLookup may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ad Settings.
🍪 Cookies
The site may use cookies for essential functionality and advertising. Advertising cookies are managed by Google AdSense. Depending on your location, a consent prompt may be shown before advertising cookies are set.
🔗 Third-Party Services
RustLookup relies on the following third-party services, which may process data subject to their own privacy policies:
- Valve / Steam API — player profile and stats data is fetched from the Steam Web API.
- BattleMetrics — server history and player server tracking data is fetched from the BattleMetrics API. BattleMetrics is an independent service and is not affiliated with RustLookup, Facepunch Studios, or Valve. See BattleMetrics' Privacy Policy.
- Netlify — website hosting and edge functions.
- Render — backend API hosting.
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymised usage analytics.
- Google AdSense — advertising.
- Google Fonts — font delivery.
📅 Data Retention
Search and technical data is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and improve the website. Cached player data on our backend expires after two hours.
👤 Your Choices
You can stop using the service at any time. You can clear locally stored data through your browser's settings. You can manage or opt out of advertising cookies via your browser or Google's Ad Settings.
📋 Steam Data
When you search for a player, RustLookup queries the public Steam Web API on your behalf. The data returned — including player profiles, stats, ban history, and inventory — is data the Steam account holder has made publicly available through their own Steam privacy settings.
- RustLookup does not have access to private Steam profiles or hidden statistics.
- Stats may be unavailable if a player has set their game details to private in Steam.
- Inventory data is only visible if the player's Steam inventory is set to public.
- Ban data reflects publicly visible VAC and game ban records from Valve's systems.
- Player data is cached for up to two hours to reduce API load. It is not stored permanently.
RustLookup is not affiliated with Valve or Steam. Steam data is used solely to display results to the user performing the lookup and is not used for any other purpose.
👤 Data Correction & Removal Requests
Because RustLookup displays publicly available Steam data, we do not control the source data. To change or remove your Steam profile data, you should update your privacy settings directly in Steam.
If you believe RustLookup is displaying data about you that is incorrect, should not be accessible, or you wish to request its removal from our cache, contact us at support@rustlookup.com. Please include your SteamID64 and a description of your request. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
